Valentine's Day at My Gym

We went to My Gym today for their Valentine's day party. We met up with another first time Mom of Twins there. It was a fun time but was definately very busy. The babies and the mommies go lots of excercise running around. There were trampolines, slides, a big ball pit, and some hanging things to push around. Of course, the girls kept taking off in different directions. There was so much to do that they actually did not want what their sister had for once! It was a lot of work but it was so worth it to get them out and let them explore, climb, dance and just be free! They really loved it. We signed up for the lifetime membership but we are holding off on enrolling in a class because it is just too hard for one Mommy to contain these two!

They were so tired, they went to sleep pretty quickly after we got home... Now, the real test - did they use up enough energy to sleep through the entire night....

I should probably be sleeping!

OK, so I should probably be sleeping but I am finding that blogging is pretty exciting. I'm not sure that anyone is actually reading my posts but hey, they are here! I recently joined facebook and that is also quite addictive - there are so many people on there that I have lost touch with. I think I am just trying to feel connected to some sort of normal life - whatever normal is! I have lost touch with so many things as my life has changed from wife to Mom. Twins are definately a huge time commitment. I'm going to force myself to stop typing now and go get some rest before one of my teething babies decides she wants more motrin!

A little history

I delivered twin girls by c-section on 1/21/08 at 37 weeks gestation. It took 12 weeks of bedrest plus one week of waiting after that. Yes, I was huge and uncomfortable! My girls were big for twins - 6 lbs 8 oz and 7 lbs 1 oz. The jury is still out on whether they are identical or fraternal - genetic test results are pending... I had every intention of breast-feeding them but unfortunately my body did not cooperate by producing sufficient milk. I plan to post more on that later! Prior to my bed-rest/delivery, I joined a local Mothers of Multiples group and it was probably one of my better decisions. I have made lots of contacts and have found the group to be very supportive. They also understand what I am going through. I am hoping that by spending a bit of time blogging that I will have an outlet to share my experiences and perhaps even help others who may become 'First Time Moms of Twins'.

Useful items for a new twin Mom

OK, so I know I would have liked to have this list before I had my girls. What does a twin Mom really need?
Two Cribs - maybe one to start but it is nice to have them both in case you want to separate your babies for any reason
Boppy pillows - this is probably one of the most used items for me. Using the boppy's I could nurse one baby and bottle feed the other!
Bouncy seat - these were great! My girls had reflux so this was a great way to keep them somewhat upright after a feeding - they also slept in them
Swing - if your baby takes to the swing it will be priceless
A good rocking chair - I spend more time in my chair than I ever could have imagined! Get one with enough space on either side so that you can hold both babies once you figure out how!
Double stroller - if you ever want to leave the house again, you will want one of these! I loved my Graco Duo Glider until they learned to grab eachother's hair! Now we are using the Combi side by side. Both have their strengths and weaknesses. I really like the Kolcraft Contours stroller but I did not discover it until after I had used the Graco and I just can't justify the expense now!
A hands free device for your phone - you will have both hands full for a while, if you want to stay in touch some sort of hands free device makes a huge difference!

Boy, you must have your hands full...

If I only had a dollar for everytime I hear this! I'm working on some good responses like, 'yep, until I grow a few more hands!' LOL Why is it that people feel they have to state the obvious! I swear I hear this at least a dozen times when we go out in public. Venturing out in public with young twins is like being on the hollywood red-carpet sometimes - the paparazzi is everywhere. I try and take it with a grain of salt but it is kind of tough to get my business taken care of with people gawking over the babies. Don't get me wrong, I am a proud Mommy and enjoy some of the compliments but if you are standing in front of my stroller you are in the way of me getting done what I came to do. And if I don't get it done quick then not only will I have my hands full but I will have two crying babies to deal with in public - that is definately my nightmare.

Teething Bites

OMG. I can't believe I actually started a blog. Like there isn't enough going on in our lives. The girls are teething and that means we are not sleeping well around here. Add that to the non-stop schedule of a work at home mom who stays up late to work in an effort to spend more time with the kids and we are talking about <6 hours a night of sleep. We are a big fan of the homeopathic teething remedies around here! They seem to help. Although, I could go with some homeopathic sleeping pills for infants right about now! Ha!
Well, this is my little trial run at typing into the blog - I will figure out where to go from here and get back to you!
